Oman Targets Green Hydrogen Exports by 2030, Seeks India Tie-Up

Oman plans to develop the capacity to export green hydrogen by 2030 and is looking to strengthen cooperation with India in renewable energy and green fuels, Oman's Ambassador to India Issa Saleh Abdullah Alshibani said.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Conclave in New Delhi, Alshibani said that Oman has formulated a green hydrogen policy and is working towards developing its export capabilities.

He said  that green hydrogen was among the areas where Oman and India could explore greater collaboration, particularly as both countries work on clean-energy and alternative-fuel initiatives.

India's National Green Hydrogen Mission aims to establish the country as a global hub for the production, use and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives.

India and Oman have also identified energy transition as an area for greater bilateral cooperation. During Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Oman in December 2025, the two countries agreed to strengthen cooperation in new and renewable energy, green hydrogen and green ammonia.

On Sustainable Aviation Fuel, Alshibani said that Oman is discussing policies under Oman Vision 2040 and Air Vision 2040 to make aviation cleaner and more efficient. He said that the country is also exploring collaboration with other countries to support its net-zero objectives.

India is targeting indicative SAF blending levels of 1 percent for international flights from 2027, 2 percent from 2028 and 5 percent from 2030. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has also been working on SAF production, certification and supply-chain development, with SAF availability targeted from 2027.

The India SAF Conclave & Awards 2026 is being held from September 28-29 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, bringing together government, airlines, airports, SAF producers, technology companies and investors to discuss production, policy, investment and supply chains.
