Oil India (OIL) and Canada-based Petroleum Technology Research Centre (PTRC) have signed a collaboration framework to advance cooperation in carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS), geothermal energy, clean energy technologies and startup-led innovation. The agreement was signed on June 10, 2026, on the sidelines of the Global Energy Show 2026 in Calgary, Canada.

The collaboration aims to strengthen India-Canada cooperation on energy transition and sustainability initiatives. The framework covers a range of areas, including CO₂ utilisation and permanent storage through geological sequestration and mineralisation, development of enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technologies to reduce the environmental footprint of oil and gas production, and identification of business opportunities in both countries through existing industry networks.

The partnership will also focus on identifying and evaluating geothermal projects of mutual interest, as well as undertaking joint research through OIL and PTRC’s Energy Innovation Hub on subsurface energy production and storage technologies.

In addition, the two organisations will collaborate with mc²+, the startup platform established under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India, to support innovation and research in emerging clean energy technologies.
