In a major boost to Saudi Arabia’s clean energy ambitions, Nahdi Medical Company, the largest pharmacy retailer in the Kingdom, has partnered with Emerge, a joint venture between UAE’s Masdar and France’s EDF Group, to deploy a rooftop solar power system at its flagship distribution facility, IMDAD.

The 3 MWp distributed solar project will significantly reduce the site’s carbon footprint, avoiding over 3,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, the equivalent of powering approximately 625 homes for a year. This initiative directly supports the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 and the Saudi Green Initiative, aimed at transitioning the economy toward sustainable, low-carbon operations.

Under a 15-year agreement, Emerge will provide a complete turnkey solution, managing everything from project financing and system design to construction, operations, and maintenance. This partnership marks a significant milestone for both companies, bolstering Nahdi’s sustainability journey while expanding Emerge’s growing footprint in the Saudi market.

Eng. Yasir Jamal, Chief Supply Chain Officer at Nahdi, said the company is deeply aligned with Vision 2030 and that developing strategic partnerships is a key part of their roadmap. He added that this collaboration with Emerge reflects Nahdi’s long-term commitment to clean energy, innovation, and building a healthier future for its guests and the wider community.

Michel Abi Saab, General Manager of Emerge, highlighted that Saudi Arabia’s year-round sunshine makes solar energy an obvious and powerful solution for businesses. He emphasized that Emerge’s turnkey model, with no upfront costs, makes it easier for companies like Nahdi to switch to green power while contributing to the Kingdom’s climate goals.

By integrating clean energy into its logistics operations, Nahdi not only reduces emissions but also sets a precedent for how retail and healthcare players can contribute meaningfully to the region’s sustainability targets.
