Egypt’s Electricity Minister Mahmoud Esmat has reviewed progress on 2,500 MW of renewable energy projects, alongside 720 MWh of battery storage, being developed by the Hassan Allam-Infinity consortium as part of the country’s clean energy expansion strategy.

The meeting, held in the New Administrative Capital, assessed implementation timelines, equipment readiness, and grid integration plans for solar and wind projects located in Benban, Minya, and Hurghada.

Key developments include a 200 MW solar plant in Benban with 120 MWh of storage and a 1,000 MW solar project in West Minya paired with 600 MWh of storage. Wind projects under review include a 1,000 MW facility in Ras Shukeir and a 300 MW project near Hurghada.

Officials also examined supply chain challenges amid global geopolitical developments, while emphasizing adherence to project schedules and coordination with the New and Renewable Energy Authority.

The projects support Egypt’s goal of increasing renewable energy’s share in its power mix to 45 percent by 2028. Esmat underscored the need to expand energy storage systems to enhance grid stability, improve efficiency, and ensure reliable electricity supply.

He added that strengthening the national grid and boosting private sector participation remain central to accelerating the country’s energy transition.
