The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has asked manufacturers to submit details on the development status, manufacturing capacity, commercial readiness and indicative costs of advanced transmission technologies, including pole structures, four-circuit configurations and insulated cross arms, to address right-of-way (ROW) constraints in India’s power transmission network.
The Power System Engineering and Technology Development (PSE&TD) Division of the CEA has issued a memorandum seeking information from interested and established manufacturers on these technologies, particularly for high-voltage transmission lines at 400 kV and 765 kV.
The initiative aims to assess domestic industry readiness for adopting space-efficient transmission solutions to minimise land requirements and address ROW challenges. The government is also considering mandating the use of these technologies in suitable corridors for upcoming Interstate Transmission System (ISTS) projects.
Under the information requirements, manufacturers must provide details of design validation and type-testing against relevant technical standards, monthly and annual manufacturing capacities in units and metric tonnes, raw material sourcing arrangements and supply constraints. They must also submit indicative costs for different configurations classified as Types A, B, C and D.
The CEA has additionally sought information on the development status of coastal lattice towers across voltage levels ranging from 66 kV to 765 kV.
The information collected will help the CEA assess manufacturing capabilities and commercial preparedness for deploying advanced transmission technologies in future projects.
