Apeco Wins EPC Contract for 8.77 MW Souk Sharq Solar Project in Kuwait

Alternative Energy Projects Company (Apeco) has secured an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract from Kuwait based United Real Estate Company (URC), through its subsidiary Marasi United, to develop a solar power system at the Souk Sharq commercial complex in Kuwait City.

Under the agreement, Apeco will design, procure and construct an 8.77 MW photovoltaic (PV) system, while also providing operations and maintenance services for 15 years. The solar installation will be deployed across rooftop and carport structures at Souk Sharq, one of Kuwait's busiest retail and waterfront destinations.

According to Apeco, the project aligns with the objectives of New Kuwait Vision 2035, which aims to increase the share of renewable energy to 15 percent of the country's energy mix by 2030.

Commenting on the project, Apeco Chief Executive Officer Dr Hassan Qasem said that the partnership with United Real Estate Company represents a strong example of strategic collaboration between private sector organisations in Kuwait to advance clean energy adoption.

He added that the solar installation is expected to prevent around 189,000 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions over its operational lifetime. By integrating solar panels on existing rooftops and carport structures instead of using open land, the project offers an efficient renewable energy solution for a densely developed commercial site.

The company estimates that the system will generate enough clean electricity to meet the annual power requirements of approximately 110 homes.

United Real Estate Company Group Chief Executive Officer Mishari Suleiman Al Muhailan said the project forms part of the company's long term sustainability strategy. He noted that integrating renewable energy into a major commercial and waterfront complex will reduce dependence on conventional electricity while supporting Kuwait's broader sustainability and clean energy goals.

The project is also expected to encourage wider adoption of renewable energy solutions across Kuwait's commercial real estate sector.
