Our approach is to offer robust chargers and batteries that perform reliably in various environmental and usage conditions, including extremes of temperature, humidity, and inconsistent electrical supply, reveals Sudham Ravinutala, Vice President Marketing and Product Strategy, Eastman Auto and Power in a casual chat with Aishwarya Saxena, Energetica India on the grounds of EV Expo 2024, held in Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

Que: What are you showcasing at EV Expo 2024, and what sets your solutions apart from competitors in the market?

Ans: At Eastman Auto and Power, we are leaders in last-mile e-mobility solutions. Here, we are showcasing our complete range of products, including chargers and batteries. These include both lead-acid and lithium batteries, under our three brands: Eastman, Wattsman, and Addo. What sets us apart is our comprehensive product lineup designed to meet diverse needs in the e-mobility sector.

Que: How do you ensure compliance with safety standards in design of EV products?

Ans: Fortunately, industry mandates specify standards and certifications for products like ours. Our batteries and chargers also adhere to all required certifications, standards required in the Indian EV market. Beyond compliance, we prioritize safety by carefully designing and packaging our products to minimize risks during transportation and usage. Safety is always our top priority.

Que: What are the main challenges in developing efficient charging systems for electric vehicles?

Ans: The challenges are multifaceted. Firstly, users often lack access to dedicated parking spaces, leading to the need for a common charging ecosystem. Secondly, erratic power supplies can prevent users from achieving a full charge. Despite these hurdles, the market has grown significantly. Our approach is to offer robust chargers and batteries that perform reliably in various environmental and usage conditions, including extremes of temperature, humidity, and inconsistent electrical supply.

Que: How does Eastman approach innovation in the rapidly evolving renewable energy sector?

Ans: At Eastman, innovation is integral to our DNA. We've built our reputation by consistently innovating, starting with tubular batteries for e-rickshaw applications. Over time, we've introduced long-warranty and high-capacity batteries, among other advancements. Our innovations extend beyond products; for example, our lithium battery buy-back policy ensures value and trust for our consumers. Additionally, we run promotional offers like the one currently active for e-rickshaw drivers, where they can win instant monetary rewards by purchasing our batteries. Innovation for us is not just about products but also about creating meaningful value propositions for our customers.

Que: What are your strategic growth plans for the Indian electric mobility sector?

Ans: As the leaders in the last-mile e-mobility sector, particularly in the L3 space, we see significant opportunities ahead. The transition from lead-acid to lithium battery technology presents a growth avenue. We have strong relationships with both OEMs manufacturing e-rickshaws and end-users. Strategically, we aim to support our existing customer base while expanding into adjacent mobility applications that can benefit from our lithium solutions. Our focus remains on innovation and maintaining strong partnerships to drive growth in this dynamic sector.
