Interview: Pratik Kamdar

CEO and Co-founder at Neuron Energy

Neuron Energy Meeting Diverse Industry Needs with Custom Battery Solutions

February 14, 2025. By Aishwarya

Our USP lies in delivering superior battery solutions with an advanced Battery Management System (BMS) and high-quality cells, ensuring seamless integration with the powertrain, elaborates Pratik Kamdar, CEO and Co-founder Neuron Energy in a casual chat with Aishwarya Saxena, Energetica India on Neuron Energy’s stall at Bharat Battery Show 2025.

Que: Can you tell us what Neuron Energy is showcasing at Bharat Battery Show 2025?

Ans: This year, we are expanding our product range significantly. Last year, our focus was primarily on batteries for two-wheelers and three-wheelers. However, in 2025, we are broadening our scope to include batteries for EVs, tractors, UPS systems, and additional applications within the energy storage sector. This expansion aligns with our goal of diversifying our offerings and meeting the growing demand for high-performance battery solutions.

Que: What significant challenges do you foresee in the EV battery industry, and how does Neuron Energy plan to address them?

Ans: One of the major challenges we anticipate is on the supply side rather than demand. The demand for battery solutions remains strong, but the primary issue is the industry's significant dependence on China for battery cells and Battery Management Systems (BMS). Another key challenge is the lack of standardization, which requires us to maintain multiple types of inventory to accommodate various requirements. This increases complexity in logistics and production. However, despite these hurdles, we remain confident that the market will remain stable, and we are actively exploring ways to mitigate supply chain risks and enhance efficiency.

Que: What is Neuron Energy’s USP that differentiates it from other EV battery manufacturers and how do you maintain a competitive edge?

Ans: At Neuron Energy, quality is at the heart of everything we do. Our USP lies in delivering superior battery solutions with an advanced Battery Management System (BMS) and high-quality cells, ensuring seamless integration with the powertrain. Our battery packs are already integrated with most leading powertrain suppliers, including Metal, Veolia, Malay, and Spartan. This deep integration allows us to offer a more efficient and optimized energy solution, giving us a significant edge in the market. As a result, we are positioned as a leading player in the L5 segment and are well-prepared to scale our operations further.

Que: How does Neuron Energy tailor its battery solutions to meet the specific needs of different EV manufacturers?

Ans: We provide completely customized battery solutions tailored to the unique requirements of each EV manufacturer. Our in-house research and development team, consisting of 20 highly skilled personnel, plays a crucial role in this process. The team conducts a thorough analysis of the vehicle’s specifications and needs, reverse engineers the requirements, and then designs a battery pack that perfectly fits the vehicle. This level of customization ensures that our battery solutions maximize efficiency and performance while catering to the specific demands of various electric vehicle platforms.

Que: What sets Neuron Energy’s after-sales service apart from others in the industry?

Ans: Our after-sales service network is one of the most extensive in the country. We have a Pan-India service presence, with the only exceptions being Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Srinagar. Apart from this, our support system is available everywhere. Additionally, we prioritize customer satisfaction, and if a customer requires service in a specific area where we don’t have a direct presence, we are open to deploying service personnel to that location. This flexibility and commitment to customer support ensure that our clients receive prompt and effective service, making us a reliable partner in the EV industry.

Que: How does Neuron Energy contribute to sustainability and climate change initiatives?

Ans: Batteries, by nature, contribute to sustainability by replacing fossil fuels. Every Neuron Energy battery used in an electric vehicle helps reduce the reliance on petrol and diesel, leading to lower carbon emissions. Beyond EV applications, we are actively working on expanding into grid storage and solar energy solutions. One of our key initiatives is to enable the transition from traditional thermal power plants to renewable energy sources, utilizing our battery technology for grid storage applications. By focusing on these advancements, we aim to drive sustainability not only in the EV space but across the broader energy sector.

Que: What next-generation battery technologies is Neuron Energy working on?

Ans: We are actively engaged in the development of multiple next-generation battery technologies. Our research is focused on solid-state batteries, hybrid battery systems, and hydrogen-based energy solutions. These technologies represent the future of energy storage, and we are committed to pioneering advancements in this space. In the coming years, we will be making major announcements regarding large-scale developments in these areas, positioning ourselves as a leader in cutting-edge battery innovation.

Que: Are there any expansion plans or upcoming product launches we can expect from Neuron Energy?

Ans: We have significant expansion plans underway. We are currently setting up a large-scale battery manufacturing facility in Pune, which will become operational on March 15th. This two-gigawatt-hour facility will have the capacity to produce approximately 250,000 battery packs for two-wheelers annually, as well as 100,000 battery packs for three-wheelers. Additionally, we have planned scalability within this facility to double the production capacity in the future, allowing us to manufacture up to one million battery packs per year. This expansion reflects our commitment to meeting the growing market demand and further strengthening our position in the EV battery industry.
