Interview: Manjula Girish

Business Head, EV Charging and Photovoltaic Inverter Division at Delta Electronics India

Driving Sustainability: Delta Electronics' Vision for Renewable Energy and EV Charging

March 03, 2025. By Abha Rustagi

As India marches towards becoming a global leader in clean energy and sustainable transportation, the expansion of EV charging infrastructure and arriving at the means of Renewable Energy plays a pivotal role. Delta actively develops products and solutions as to continuously improve the energy conversion efficiency and reliability, said Manjula Girish, Business Head, EV Charging and Photovoltaic Inverter Division at Delta Electronics India in an interview with Abha Rustagi, Associate Editor, Energetica India.

Que: Delta offers a wide range of inverters, energy storage, and EV charging solutions. What have you showcased at ELECRAMA this year?

Ans: We are primarily focusing on renewable energy and have showcased our 240-kilowatt chargers, which are part of our new product series. This is an upgraded version of our existing model, featuring improvements in form factor and critical aspects of the charger. This time, we are specifically showcasing the 240-kilowatt chargers tailored for the bus segment. It is our key product in focus.

Que: How does Delta ensure the sustainability of its supply chain, particularly in terms of sourcing materials for solar and energy storage solutions?

Ans: We have a very stringent process in place, and as you may know, Delta Electronics also joined RE100 — 100% Renewable Electricity and Carbon Neutrality Targets for Its Global Operations by 2030. Internally, all our supply chain activities align with these sustainability goals. We follow a structured sequence of operations, ensuring that qualification processes adhere to our sustainability mission.

Que: Energy storage is a crucial aspect of solar energy adoption. How is Delta Electronics addressing the challenges in energy storage adoption?

Ans: As technology advances, energy demand will continue to scale up.

Delta is a leading one-stop provider of energy storage solutions with an impeccable safety record. We pride ourselves on delivering rigorously tested battery systems and in-house PCS, ensuring proven integration with multiple battery brands. Our offerings include custom-designed system planning, PCS, battery systems, control systems, EMS, financial optimization, and operation & maintenance.

On the other hand, while we independently offer EV charging solutions as part of a bundled service, energy storage is also a key component. We refer to this as a "Green EV Charging Station Setup," where users can store energy through renewable sources. Solar inverters can be deployed to generate power, which can then be stored and utilised during off-peak periods. This aligns with our current mission.

Que: With the rise of smart cities and the increased use of distributed energy resources, how are you managing technology for grid stability and efficiency?

Ans: Energy storage is a key focus area for us, and we are also developing photovoltaic inverters as part of our product portfolio.

Our entire energy infrastructure solutions division is aligned with the mission of renewable energy integration,
Grid stability means to ensure the electricity supply consistent and reliable, preventing blackouts and fluctuations, which also get boosted by Load balancing - Supply and Demand side management and optimization of renewable energy integrations.

battery storage, and the establishment of green EV charging stations. We ensure our solutions are cohesive with the growing energy demands and grid requirements.

The overarching goal of our energy infrastructure solutions business is to support sustainable renewable energy resources.

Que: Are there any expansion plans, innovations in the pipeline, or upcoming partnerships?

Ans: We are closely collaborating with OEMs, particularly in the four-wheeler and bus segments. These partnerships are essential, as they involve niche requirements and value engineering.

Last financial year, we established close collaborations with Tata Motors and the Indian manufacturer Trinity Cleantech.

Similarly, we are exploring further collaborative opportunities to address industry challenges and drive upcoming innovations.

Que: Are there any key trends or technologies you are looking forward to?

Ans: We are currently developing charging solutions for four-wheelers, including a portable charger. Additionally, we are working on new form factors for charging infrastructure, such as wall-box chargers.

At present, our 240-kilowatt chargers for the bus segment are our flagship product. However, we have a roadmap for future developments, including a 360-kilowatt fast charger designed for trucks and buses. This will be a key focus area for our development activities moving forward.
