October 29, 2024. By Abha Rustagi

Delta Electronics aims to achieve annual growth of 25-30% in key sectors like renewable energy, industrial automation, and electric mobility, said Manjula Girish, Business Head, EV Charging and Photovoltaic Inverter Division, Delta Electronics India, in an interview with Abha Rustagi, Associate Editor, Energetica India.

Que: How do you see Delta Electronics' strategic expansion in India contributing to local innovation and economic growth, particularly in sectors like EV infrastructure and renewable energy solutions?

Ans: Delta Electronics' expansion in India is deeply rooted in our 'Local for Local' strategy, which focuses on fostering local innovation and driving economic growth. We are making significant investments in local manufacturing and R&D to empower India's growing sectors, particularly EV infrastructure and renewable energy. These sectors hold immense potential for transformation.

For example, we have already supplied over 8000 EV chargers in India, contributing to the establishment of a robust EV ecosystem, alongside our global deployment of over three million chargers. Products like our Delta Ultra-Fast Charger are enhancing the country's EV charging infrastructure, ensuring efficiency and reliability for users. Additionally, our renewable energy solutions are helping businesses adopt clean energy, reducing their carbon footprint and energy costs.

Beyond product offerings, this expansion creates high-quality jobs, strengthens India's technological capabilities, and aligns with the country’s sustainable development goals. By driving local innovation, we are helping India lead in critical areas like electric mobility and renewable energy while contributing to overall economic growth.

Que: Delta Electronics recently inaugurated a new R&D facility in Bengaluru. Could you share the vision behind this centre and its role in driving innovation across different sectors? What is Delta Electronics’ plan to expand its R&D workforce in

Ans: The inauguration of our new R&D centre in Bengaluru marks a significant step in Delta’s innovation journey in India. The vision behind this centre is to develop locally tailored, cost-effective solutions that meet the specific needs of the Indian market, particularly in areas like EV infrastructure, renewable energy, and industrial automation.

This facility will serve as a hub for innovation, allowing us to create next-generation products that align with India’s rapid industrial and technological growth. Over the next 2-3 years, we plan to expand our R&D workforce to over 750 engineers, which will play a crucial role in driving advancements in smart energy management systems, advanced EV chargers, and AI-powered industrial automation solutions.

This investment in local talent and R&D will not only bolster our product development pipeline but will also strengthen India’s tech ecosystem. By leveraging local expertise, we aim to create solutions that support India’s industrial transformation and contribute to global innovation.

Que: Delta Electronics is committed to global sustainability and energy-efficient solutions. How is this commitment being reflected in the company’s operations and product offerings in India?

Ans: Delta Electronics' global commitment to sustainability is fully integrated into our operations and product offerings in India. Our EV chargers, such as the 240kW Ultra-Fast Charger, are designed to optimise energy efficiency, which plays a vital role in reducing carbon emissions, particularly in the transportation sector. These energy-efficient chargers are helping India build a sustainable EV ecosystem by reducing the environmental impact of electric vehicles.

Additionally, our power electronics and renewable energy solutions offer industry-leading efficiency, enabling businesses to lower their energy consumption and carbon footprint. Over 50% of our facilities in India are powered by renewable energy, further emphasising our commitment to sustainable practices. Through our innovative products and green operations, we are contributing to India's climate goals and supporting the country’s transition to a more energy-efficient and sustainable future.

Que: Delta Electronics has recently partnered with Tata Motors and Thunderplus to establish 250 fast charging stations for electric commercial vehicles across India. How will this collaboration impact India’s EV ecosystem? How does Delta view government

Ans: Delta’s collaboration with Tata Motors and Thunderplus to establish 250 fast charging stations for electric commercial vehicles is a major step in strengthening India’s EV ecosystem. While Delta’s role as an OEM partner focuses on supplying the chargers, the installation of these fast charging stations will greatly enhance the operational efficiency of electric fleets by reducing downtime and increasing fleet productivity. This is especially crucial for commercial vehicle operators, as it improves their operational performance and accelerates the transition to electric mobility.

Government initiatives like FAME II (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles) and the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme have been instrumental in shaping our growth strategy. These policies encourage local manufacturing and the rapid development of EV infrastructure, which directly aligns with Delta’s expansion goals in the Indian EV space. We have already seen a year-on-year increase in demand for our EV products, and we expect this trend to continue as industries adopt electric solutions on a larger scale.

Que: Could you share Delta’s outlook for the next 3-5 years in India, particularly in sectors like renewable energy, industrial automation, and electric mobility?

Ans: Delta’s outlook for the next 3-5 years in India is highly optimistic. We aim to achieve annual growth of 25-30% in key sectors like renewable energy, industrial automation, and electric mobility. Our strategy for electric mobility includes the continued rollout of ultra-fast charging stations across Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities, which will further strengthen our leadership in India’s growing EV ecosystem.

In industrial automation, we see significant potential for growth, particularly through the integration of IoT and AI-powered solutions that will enhance energy efficiency and productivity for industries across the country. These technologies will help Indian businesses transition to smarter, more efficient operations, contributing to overall economic growth.

With increasing government support and a rising demand for sustainable solutions, Delta is well-positioned to drive innovation and maintain its leadership in India’s critical sectors over the next few years.
