Ans: The Battery as a Service (BaaS) model offered by Energy & Fire Tech is a unique solution designed to reduce the prohibitive capital expenditure (CAPEX) associated with purchasing new batteries. Targeted primarily at bulk battery users in various industry sectors. This service allows businesses to deploy their capital more efficiently while meeting their battery needs on an operational expenditure (OPEX) model. In addition, the ability to claim depreciation on leased assets under Indian Accounting Standard 116 further enhances the financial viability of this model. Que: What regulatory and policy challenges exist in India for the adoption of refurbished batteries in renewable energy storage?

Ans: In India, the adoption of refurbished batteries in renewable energy storage face challenges due to the lack of clear policies and standards. The Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022 approved and included battery refurbishment as a process but CPCB has not laid down the clear process to apply and get approval as battery refurbisher. The rules primarily focus on the disposal and recycling of used lead acid batteries. They do not provide specific guidelines or incentives for refurbished batteries. These gaps in regulation and policy create uncertainty for businesses seeking to adopt refurbished battery solutions.


Que: How does your company collaborate with OEMs and government agencies to promote energy efficiency in battery reuse?

Ans: Energy & Fire Tech collaborates with OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and government agencies to promote energy efficiency in battery reuse through strategic partnerships and joint initiatives. A notable example is our ongoing project with various private and public sector companies, where we provide battery rejuvenation and extended warranty with AMC services for ensuring long-term efficiency. In addition, we have rejuvenated batteries for several government banks and other government departments, contributing to their energy efficiency goals.
