Sungrow has been engaged in clean power generation since 1997. Its products, solutions, and services are helping to produce clean and green energy in more than 170 countries. The company’s product range focuses exclusively on the renewable energy industry, said Harendra Tomar, Leader - Business Development, Sungrow, in an interview with Energetica India.

Que: What are the key products and solutions Sungrow offers to the renewable energy market?

Ans: Sungrow is known for technological innovation in power conversion technology and introducing new/updated products with huge investment in R&D and also based on stakeholder feedback. Being a global leader in PV inverter and energy storage system providers, Sungrow installed over 605 GW of power converters worldwide as of June 2024. The major products Sungrow manufactures and supplies globally include PV inverters (central, string, hybrid, or micro inverters) for all industry segments (residential, C&I, and utility.

Sungrow is also offering ESS solutions (PCS and battery containerized solutions) globally for all those industry segments. Sungrow achieved the No. 1 BESS supplier position globally. The Power Titan 2.0 product, a plug-and-play kind solution, for BESS, was introduced by Sungrow in the market with advanced technology integration. It is being recognised and accepted by BESS developers globally and is now also available for the Indian market.

In addition to the above, Sungrow has a leading position as a manufacturer and supplier of floating systems, green hydrogen solutions (electrolyser), EV chargers, and monitoring and smart management solutions (EMS). Sungrow is working on a mission mode to offer clean power for all.

Que: What are the major challenges and opportunities in the Indian and South Asian markets?

Ans: The renewable energy markets in India and South Asia present a unique mix of challenges and opportunities.

The major challenges in the Indian and South Asian markets include policy-related issues, such as inconsistent and short-term policies, complex and multi-layered approval processes, and difficulties with land availability. Infrastructure challenges are also significant, including grid capabilities to integrate renewable energy, along with T&D losses. Additionally, there is a shortage of skilled manpower for introducing new technologies or products, and a lack of low-cost financing options to make power more affordable.

Opportunities in the renewable energy sector are being driven primarily by growing energy demand, particularly in developing countries. It is important to recognise that various steps are being taken, and support is being extended to the industry by the government and local authorities to streamline policies and stimulate market demand, such as climate commitments and national RE targets, electrification reach (power for all), and renewable power purchase obligations etc.

Additionally, technological innovations, cost competitiveness, and greater acceptance of decentralised energy systems are creating new avenues for growth. We can conclude that the region is witnessing immense opportunities for RE development and may play a leading role in RE adoption.

Que: How does Sungrow ensure strict quality control of manufacturing and raw materials?

Ans: It is rightly said that reaching the highest position is not as difficult as maintaining the position. In fact, improving it year after year is even more difficult. As I said earlier too, Sungrow invests heavily in R&D, having stringent processes and norms to select the supplier and raw materials required, regularly updating and upgrading manufacturing processes by introducing technological advancements like automation, in-house testing, and independent third-party certification/validation for products manufactured. Sungrow is offering its product to more than 170 countries, which is possible by adopting global standards, investing in employee training and development with strict quality control along with customer feedback, and after-sales product performance monitoring.

Que: How does Sungrow’s local manufacturing in India and other South Asian countries contribute to job creation and economic growth?

Ans: Local manufacturing is being aggressively promoted by the government and to reciprocate the same, Sungrow established a 3 GW inverter manufacturing facility in 2018 in India. Subsequently, the manufacturing capacity was increased to 10 GW per annum in 2022. This facility in India has one of the largest manufacturing capacities and while considering the increased demand in the region, Sungrow is also exploring to increase it further in the near future.

If we talk about the contribution of local manufacturing, it certainly helps in many ways like direct job creation, development of skilled manpower, development of local supply chain, and indirect job creation by increasing demand of service industries like transportation, catering, packaging, etc. Availability of products locally enhances customer confidence as well as shortens the product delivery period which helps in achieving energy transition goals.

All these outcomes have positive impacts on the overall economic growth of the region along with improving export potential and managing trade balance.

Que: What are the company's primary objectives for participating in this year’s REI Expo?

Ans: Sungrow regularly participates in REI with the objectives of promoting sustainable and renewable energy adoption, showcasing products, and demonstrating innovative technological advancements, particularly in the RE segment.

Such events help reinforce Sungrow's position as a leading player in the renewable energy sector in India and South Asia by promoting brand awareness and visibility. Networking and extensive interactions with industry representatives, customer engagements, and generating awareness about after-sales services are also major objectives Sungrow considers while participating in the REI Expo.

REI Expo also offers the opportunity to assess competitors’ strengths and offerings and identify new business opportunities.

Que: What are Sungrow’s future plans for the next five years?

Ans: Sungrow has been engaged in clean power generation since 1997. Our products, solutions, and services are helping to produce clean and green energy in more than 170 countries. Our product range focuses exclusively on the renewable energy industry, including power conversion equipment like solar inverters, solar floating systems, ESS, robotic cleaning for solar panels, wind converters, EV chargers, and green hydrogen production systems.

Sungrow's journey thus far is a testament to its success and its achievement of a leading position in the global renewable energy market. Sungrow is thriving and looks forward to expanding in terms of product portfolio, local presence, and local manufacturing. By offering a wide range of solutions and services, Sungrow is committed to providing clean power for all and is steadfast in its efforts to become the global leader in clean power conversion technology.

Sungrow's vision for the South Asian market is aligning with regional renewable energy goals and leveraging its technological expertise, Sungrow aims to contribute significantly to the energy transition in South Asia, fostering economic growth and environmental sustainability and of course to maintain a leading position with the highest market share.
