Zuari Industries Hosts Inaugural Roundtable on Future-Proofing Sugarcane in UP

Zuari Industries' SPE Division organised its first roundtable on enhancing sugarcane yields and climate-smart agriculture. The two-day event gathered farmers, experts, and policymakers to discuss sustainable strategies, advanced technologies, and collaborative solutions for resilient sugarcane farming.

Zuari Industries (SPE Division) convened its inaugural roundtable conference on "Future-Proofing Sugarcane: Strategies for Yield Enhancement and Climate-Smart Agriculture" at Gobind Sugar Mill in Aira, Uttar Pradesh (UP).

The recently held two-day event attracted farmers, scientists, industry experts, and policymakers, focusing on addressing the challenges of sugarcane cultivation, improving crop yield, and ensuring environmental sustainability.

The conference aimed to explore actionable strategies to enhance yield and soil health while tackling climate-related challenges. The opening day featured V. K. Shukla, Additional Cane Commissioner and Director UPCSR, as the Chief Guest, alongside Ved Prakash Singh, District Cane Officer, Lakhimpur. Discussions centered on climate-smart agriculture and yield improvement strategies, with contributions from about 150 farmers and 40 experts from prominent organizations like UPCSR, ICAR, and IISR.

Day two saw the involvement of technology providers such as Shaktiman, Sonalika, and Kirloskar, with discussions highlighting mechanisation's role and scientific varietal replacement to improve yields. 

Alok Saxena, Executive Director and Unit Head, SPE Division, expressed his pride in hosting the event, emphasising its significance in fostering collaboration between farmers, industry, and researchers. He highlighted the role of advanced technologies such as AI, machine learning, and digital farmland monitoring in future-proofing sugarcane farming.
