The Yuri project is located in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. It is responsible for the joint venture of ENGIE Renewables Australia Pty Ltd and Mitsui & Co., Ltd: Yuri Operations Pty Ltd, and is a project composed of Technip Energies and Monford Group Pty Ltd. , Procurement, Construction and Commissioning (EPCC) consortium to build the facilities, which include an 18MW solar farm, an 8MW battery energy storage system (BESS) and a 10MW electrolyzer.
The facility will use carbon-free solar energy to produce up to 640 tonnes of green hydrogen per year, which will be used as feedstock for the nearby Yara Pilbara Fertilizer Ltd ammonia plant. Yara Pilbara Fertilizers is a wholly owned subsidiary of Yara International, one of the world's largest producers of nitrogen-based mineral fertilizers.
Yokogawa Australia will provide EMS energy management systems to control solar power plants, battery energy storage systems (BESS) and electrolysers. The energy management system was developed by PXiSE Energy Solutions, a subsidiary of the Yokogawa Electric Group, and is integrated with the integrated control system (ICS) of the information server solution CI Server. Yokogawa will provide a collaborative information server solution for Phase 0 of the project under a separate contract .
Once these systems are installed and integrated, the Yuri facility's renewable energy production will be autonomously managed based on the operational needs of nearby ammonia plants, weather and other factors, ensuring continuous stability and power generation quality.
Commenting on Yokogawa's participation in the project, Koji Nakaoka, Senior Vice President of Yokogawa Electric and head of the company's Energy and Sustainability Business Headquarters and Global Sales Headquarters, said: "In a world where systems are closely integrated, we will be based on System of Systems (SoS) concept, providing high value-added solutions, including combining factory control and energy management systems, contributing to customers' ESG management and achieving instant control of complex power systems."
