World’s Largest Solar-Powered Data Center Opens in Dubai

The data centre was inaugurated by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai.

The data centre was inaugurated by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai.

Moro Hub (Data Hub Integrated Solutions), a subsidiary of Digital Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has developed a solar-powered data centre in the world’s largest single-site solar park Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. As per Guinness World Records, this happens to be the largest solar-powered data center in the world. 

Inaugurated by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, the green data center is touted to be an ‘exemplary model’ for integrating digital solutions into energy technologies.

Various agreements were signed on the occasion between Moro Hub and tech companies such as Dell Technologies, Microsoft, Huawei, VMWare, Emirates NBD, Digital Dubai Authority, and Dubai Islamic Bank.

Spread across 16,000 square metres, the data center created to enable next-generation services in cybersecurity, digital transformation and internet of things, has a world-class low-carbon information technology infrastructure powered by solar energy.

The new data centre supports the goal of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050.
