BSE, NSE-listed VST Industries has commissioned an aggregate 1 MW capacity of rooftop solar power plants at its manufacturing factories in Hyderabad and Telangana to meet its 25 per cent energy requirements.

The company, formerly known as Vazir Sultan Tobacco Company Ltd, has installed these plants under its sustainability commitment, and the move will result in cancelling out a total of 1,310 MT of carbon dioxide emissions.

VST said that the electricity generated from these plants would be used at the company’s corporate office, Azamabad factory and Toopran factory.

Commenting on the inauguration of these solar plants, Aditya Deb Gooptu, Managing Director of VST Industries Ltd, said, “Solar energy is one of the cleanest forms of energy and we are proud to utilize it to service about 25 percent of our energy needs. Our sustainability efforts support India’s energy transition goals as well as contribute towards environment sustainability. We have earlier used solar energy for community benefit and have since 2015 installed a total of 2,335 solar street lights across about 80 villages/towns in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.”

The installed solar power plants use a total of 2,226 solar modules and spread across an area of 83,247 square feet.

VST Industries Ltd, founded in 1930, has its Registered Office at Azamabad in Hyderabad and is engaged primarily in the manufacturing and sale of cigarettes and unmanufactured tobacco.
