Vishwakarma Government Engineering College’s students have recently showcased a project titled ‘Revolutionizing EV Charging: The Universal DC Charger for All Electric Vehicles’.

Developed by Prashant Tiwari and Smit Parmar, this innovative project demonstrated how charging efficiency and power conservation can be optimized using smart detection systems, automated power control, and advanced electronics. The team presented a universal charger capable of charging all types of electric vehicles, reducing energy waste and electronic clutter.

Sharing the vision behind the Universal EV Charger, Smit Parmar said, “The idea for this project came to me one day when I was facing a frustrating issue at home. I have two electric vehicles, and each one required its own separate charger. This made it impossible to charge both at the same time, and I found myself wasting time, energy, and resources. Not only was it inconvenient, but it also felt like a waste of electronics, and the cost of managing multiple chargers kept adding up. I thought, ‘Why can’t we create a single device that can charge any EV, saving both money and resources?’ This sparked the concept for the Universal DC Charger, a cost-friendly, efficient solution that reduces electronic waste, saves power, and makes EV charging accessible and sustainable for everyone.”

Explaining the key features of the Universal EV Charger, Prashant Tiwari said, “This innovative charger automatically detects both voltage and current, ensuring optimal charging for every electric vehicle. Once the battery is fully charged, it automatically cuts off to prevent overcharging and protect the battery’s longevity. Additionally, our charger is designed to prevent overheating, ensuring safe and reliable use. We’ve integrated a buck converter for efficient power conversion and included both a volt and ampere meter to allow users to monitor the exact amount of current flowing, ensuring precise and safe charging.

The versatility of this charger makes it a game-changer in the EV industry. It is capable of charging multiple EVs simultaneously, making it an ideal solution for households with more than one electric vehicle, commercial charging stations, and fleet operators. Additionally, it offers the flexibility to charge individual EV batteries, making it perfect for workshops, research labs, and customized EV solutions.

“This universal EV charger is a game-changer for electric vehicle owners. It’s not only cost-effective and easy to use, but it also provides reliable protection for your vehicle’s battery, ensuring longevity and safety. By supporting all types of EVs, it simplifies charging, reduces electronic waste, and makes sustainable mobility accessible for everyone,” Tiwari further said.

Smit Parmar further said, “in the rapidly evolving world of electric vehicles, efficient and intelligent charging solutions are the need of the hour. Our Universal EV Charger is designed to redefine the way we power our EVs by combining advanced electronics with practical innovation. This project was designed with the valuable guidance and support of our faculty members, Dr. A. M. Haque and Prof. N. D. Mehta. They played a role in the circuitry work and charger testing, helping bring this innovative solution to life.”

HOD Dr. I. N. Trivedi stated, “Students of the Power Electronics Department are encouraged to stay informed about emerging technologies and to work on projects. This ensures balanced development in both academic and technological fields, paving the way for a bright future for the students.”

Principal Dr. V. S. Purani stated, “For engineering students, it is essential to possess both discipline and the ability to think innovatively. VGEC College encourages such students, ensuring they are prepared to meet industry standards.”
