The officials stated the Vestas V236-15.0 MW prototype offshore wind turbine has made a world record for the most power output by a single wind turbine in a 24-hour period, generating 363 MWh in that time span.

The prototype was set up at the Østerild National test centre for huge wind turbines in Western Jutland, Denmark in December 2022.

Vestas said, since then, the turbine has been through a substantial test and verification program.

Jesper Uth, Senior Director Test & Validation, added, “Seven months into testing, we are excited to see the performance of the turbine at full power at continuously high wind. The verification campaign will continue to achieve the type certification and further demonstrate what a high-quality machine can deliver over time.”

The record was earlier made by Siemens Gamesa’s SG 14-222 DD offshore wind turbine prototype which generated 359 MWh within a 24-hour time span.

With a swept area exceeding 43,000 m2, one single V236-15.0 MW unit is capable of generating suffice energy to power over 20,000 households.

The prototype stretches 280 meters into the air and has a production output of 80 GWh per year.

The turbine will commence its offshore debut in 2024 at the Frederikshavn wind farm off Denmark.
