Vestas Achieves 1 GW Milestone of Wind Turbines Installed in Japan

The first turbine in Japan was one M300-100KW installed in the Mattou Wind Farm in Ishikawa prefecture in 1993.

Vestas has achieved 1 GW of installed wind turbine capacity in Japan. Vestas started its business in Japan as Micon A/S* in 1991. Its first turbine in Japan was one M300-100KW installed in the Mattou Wind Farm in Ishikawa prefecture in 1993.

Since then, the company have continued to expand its footprint, reaching 1,145 MW (1.1 GW) of turbines installed as of May 24, 2023.

Also in Japan, the company provide services to a total of 794 MW. Its service technicians stationed at 15 site offices support the efficient operations of turbines in all over Japan.

In addition, there are a total of 460 MW currently under construction, and will provide operation and maintenance services for many of them once they become operational.

Netoshi Kuriyama, Representative Director and Country Manager of Vestas Japan, said, "We are very pleased to have achieved the 1 GW milestone of installed wind turbine capacity in Japan. The introduction of wind energy has been accelerating for the aim of realizing decarbonized society. In 2022, Vestas installed 231 MW of onshore and 84 MW of offshore wind turbines in Japan. We remain committed to the Japanese market and will actively contribute to achieve Japan's decarbonization target through collaboration with our stakeholders, including customers, partners, governments, and local communities."
