In a major push for green energy, the Uttar Pradesh government has set a target to install 8 lakh rooftop solar plants under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana by March 2027. The goal for FY25 is 2.65 lakh units, with a monthly target of 22,000 installations, roughly 300 per district.
The Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) is leading the implementation with real-time monitoring via the Chief Minister’s dashboard. So far, over 1 lakh systems have been installed, with current progress averaging more than 11,000 installations per month.
Out of 10.73 lakh applications received, vendor listing is ongoing, and over 2,500 vendors have been empanelled. The Ministry of Skill Development and the National Institute of Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development have supported the training of approximately 1,800 of these vendors. Access to credit and loan guarantees is also being facilitated to strengthen vendor participation.
Launched in February 2024, the initiative is a cornerstone of the state’s renewable energy vision, aiming to bring solar power to every household in Uttar Pradesh.
