The US International Trade Commission (USITC) recently overturned the US Department of Commerce’s decision to impose anti-dumping and countervailing duties on aluminium extrusion imported from 14 countries, including India.

USITC determined that the US industry is not materially injured or threatened with material injury by reason of imports of aluminium extrusions from China, Colombia, Ecuador, India, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam.

Aluminium extrusion is a critical material used in solar trackers, racking and mounting structures for solar modules. Last month, the US Department of Commerce proposed imposing anti-dumping duties between 2.02 percent and 376.85 percent, along with countervailing duties ranging from 1.44 percent to 168.81 percent, on aluminium extrusions imported from the 14 countries.

The US Department of Commerce determined that these imports are sold in the United States at less than fair value, and are subsidised by the Governments of China, Indonesia, Mexico, and Turkey.

As a result of the Commission’s negative determinations, the US Department of Commerce will not issue antidumping duty orders on imports of this product from the 14 countries, including India. It will also not implement countervailing duty orders on imports of this product from China, Indonesia, Mexico, and Turkey.
