U.S. and India Launch Renewable Energy Technology Action Platform within Clean Energy Partnership

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) joined forces, to introduce the U.S. - India Renewable Energy Technology Action Platform (RETAP) as part of their Strategic Clean Energy Partnership.

Earlier, the platform unveiled following an announcement by President Joseph R. Biden and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, intends to rapidly evolve clean energy technologies.

RETAP, led by DOE Deputy Secretary David Turk and MNRE Secretary Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, is designed to foster effective collaboration with a focused approach to renewable technologies. The initial emphasis lies on green hydrogen, wind energy, and long-duration energy storage, with plans to explore geothermal energy, ocean/tidal energy, and emerging technologies as jointly determined.

The collaboration between DOE and MNRE under RETAP follows a comprehensive plan centered around five key areas: research and development, testing innovative technologies, skill development and training, policy and planning for renewable energy tech advancement, and investment and outreach initiatives.

Moreover, DOE and MNRE are set to bolster their collaboration through a potential RETAP Steering Committee, collaborative working groups, and concerted efforts among subject matter experts. Deliberations during the meeting also include significant developments in hydrogen, energy storage, wind energy, geothermal energy, marine renewables, and clean energy deployment programs in both nations.
