In a significant move towards bolstering India's renewable energy sector, the Uttar Pradesh New & Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) and The Nature Conservancy (TNC) India have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Lucknow. The agreement aims to accelerate the growth of utility-scale solar and wind energy projects across the state.

Under this partnership, TNC India will deploy a customized SiteRight tool designed specifically for Uttar Pradesh.

This innovative tool will play a pivotal role in identifying suitable locations for solar and wind energy projects, ensuring that India's renewable energy targets are met while safeguarding the environment from adverse impacts.

Uttar Pradesh has committed to achieving an impressive 14,000 MW of utility-scale solar projects by 2027.

Anupam Shukla, Director of UPNEDA, emphasized the critical importance of selecting land parcels for these projects while considering social and environmental factors to meet the state's renewable energy goals effectively and efficiently.

The collaboration between TNC and UPNEDA will prioritize land parcels with lower environmental impact, thereby providing the impetus needed to meet India's national renewable energy targets.

Annapurna Vancheswaran, Managing Director of TNC India, highlighted the shared goal of this partnership - to develop renewable energy projects that minimise their environmental footprint while fulfilling the energy requirements of the region.

This collaboration between UPNEDA and TNC India marks a significant step towards a greener and more sustainable energy future for Uttar Pradesh and the nation as a whole.
