UP Govt Presents INR 17865 Cr Supplementary Budget, Power Sector Receives INR 8587 Cr
The Uttar Pradesh government presented its second supplementary budget for FY24, amounting to INR 17,865.72 crore, with a primary focus on power and infrastructure development, including fresh proposals worth INR 790 crore.

The Uttar Pradesh government presented its second supplementary budget for FY24 on December 17, amounting to about INR 17,865.72 crore, including fresh proposals worth INR 790 crore. This budget primarily focuses on the power sector and infrastructure development.
This follows the INR 7.36 lakh crore main budget presented in February and an INR 12,209 crore supplementary budget in July. This second supplementary budget accounts for about 2.42 percent of the original budget.
Presenting the budget, Uttar Pradesh’s Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna emphasised the government’s commitment to development, stating its constitutional right to present supplementary budgets as and when needed.
In this supplementary budget, the energy department received the lion’s share with allocation amounting to about INR 8,587 crore, followed by INR 2,438 crore for the finance department, INR 1,592 crore for family welfare, and INR 1,001 crore for animal husbandry.
Other allocations included INR 805 crore for PWD, INR 515 crore for primary education, INR 505 crore for the information department, INR 454 crore for Panchayati Raj, and INR 354 crore for medical education and training.
The Minister informed during his presentation of the budget that INR 790.49 crore is being earmarked for new proposals, and INR 422.56 crore is the estimated central government’s share under various central schemes. Further, the budget has provisions to reimburse INR 30.48 crore taken previously from the contingency fund.
The budget was approved unanimously in a cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath earlier in the day, before being tabled.
