UP Government Offers Subsidised Solar Pumps to 54,000 Farmers Under PM-KUSUM Scheme

The scheme is designed to incentivise the adoption of renewable energy in agriculture, particularly solar power.

The Uttar Pradesh government has introduced an initiative aimed at bolstering agricultural sustainability and reducing reliance on traditional energy sources. More than 54,000 farmers across Uttar Pradesh are set to benefit from subsidised solar pumps as part of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan Yojana (PM-KUSUM Scheme) for the fiscal year 2024-25.

The scheme is designed to incentivize the adoption of renewable energy in agriculture, particularly solar power. By providing farmers with access to solar pumps at subsidised rates, the initiative aims to promote sustainable farming practices.

Under the scheme, farmers will have the flexibility to choose from nine different types of solar pumps, ranging from 2 HP to 10 HP, catering to diverse agricultural needs. The cost of the pumps will be subsidized by both the Central and State Governments, with grants provided to eligible farmers. Following the deduction of subsidies and registration fees, farmers will be responsible for paying the remaining amount.

The subsidies vary from INR 1,03,030 for a 2 HP surface pump to INR 2,66,456 for a 10 HP submersible pump. Farmers will be required to cover the balance amount, which varies from INR 63,686 to INR 1,47,114, depending on the chosen pump model.

This initiative represents a step towards fostering agricultural sustainability, enhancing energy efficiency, and empowering farmers across Uttar Pradesh.
