Auto components and Systems manufacturer Uno Minda Ltd. will procure 17.85 MWp of solar energy from Amplus Solar’s 54.94 MWp captive solar plant in Maharashtra under open access arrangement.
The company’s Board has recently approved the investment in the shares of the special purpose vehicle (SPV), Amplus Ampere Pvt. Ltd. for infusing the equity of INR 35 lakh/MWp aggregating to INR 6.25 crore.
“The purpose of acquiring shares is availing Captive Open Access for Solar Energy and thereby increasing the company's utilisation of renewable energy in the state of Maharashtra,” stated the company in a regulatory filing.
It further added that the indicative time period for completion of the acquisition is Q1 2025-26.
As per the company’s Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report 2023-24, for Uno Minda plants in India, renewable electricity contributed towards 24 percent of the total electricity consumption as on March 31, 2024.
“Solar power installations across several facilities have significantly reduced our reliance on non-renewable energy sources. The share of renewable energy in total energy has increased approximately 5 percent during the current year as compared to FY 2022-23,” it said.
The company has set a target to meet 40 percent of its global electricity needs from renewable energy sources by 2030.
In December 2024, Noida-based Uflex Ltd., a packaging solutions provider, partnered with Amplus Solar to procure solar energy to meet green energy needs and optimise energy costs. To fulfil the requirement of captive power consumption under electricity laws it picked up a 17.75 percent stake in Amplus Phoenix Energy for INR 11.67 crore.
In November 2024, Covestro (India) partnered with Amplus Solar Shakti in a 25-year solar power agreement to source 60 percent of its Greater Noida facility's energy needs, aiming to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 5,000 tons annually and enhance sustainability.
Earlier in May 2024, Amplus announced the successful commissioning of its 73.4 MWp Project Lakshmi, an intra-state open-access solar plant in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. Project Lakshmi marked Amplus's third solar open access plant in Uttar Pradesh, following the success of Project Mirza and Project Deoria. It also elevated the operational open-access capacity of Amplus in Uttar Pradesh to over 200 MWp, consolidating its position as a leading provider of clean energy solutions to commercial and industrial customers in the state.
