R.K. Singh, Union Minister for Power and New and Renewable Energy, inaugurated a two-day National Conference on 'Energy Transition in India - Road Travelled and Opportunities Ahead' in Gandhinagar. The event, a prelude to the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024, saw the presence of Kanubhai Desai, Minister of Energy Petrochemicals and Finance, Government of Gujarat, and various other dignitaries.

Attended by over 250 representatives from the Indian and foreign power and renewable energy sector, the conference focuses on scaling up renewable energy, addressing challenges in grid integration, financing tools, and developing supporting infrastructure.

In his address, Minister R.K. Singh emphasized the conference's aim to propel India's ambitious vision for clean energy and facilitate energy transition. India's commitment to reducing the emission intensity of its GDP by 45 percent by 2030 was reiterated.

Minister Singh, speaking to the media, urged developed countries to prioritize reducing carbon emissions, stating that 80 percent of the carbon emission burden lies with them, despite comprising only a third of the world's population. India aims to achieve 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based capacity by 2030, with at least 50 percent coming from renewable energy.

Kanubhai Desai, Minister of Finance and Energy of the Gujarat government, highlighted Gujarat's leadership in renewable energy, attributing it to the vision and long-term planning of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Underlining Gujarat's achievements, he mentioned the establishment of the country's first Climate Change department during Modi's tenure as Chief Minister.

Gujarat ranks first in the country for installed wind power capacity, constituting 25 percent of the nation's total, and boasts the highest installed rooftop solar capacity, making up 26 percent of India's total rooftop solar capacity.
