Union Government Appoints Nidhi Khare as Secretary, MNRE
Nidhi Khare, who is currently serving as the Secretary of the Department of Consumer Affairs under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution, has been assigned an additional charge as the new Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).

The Union Government has appointed IAS Nidhi Khare as the new Secretary of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). Currently serving as the Secretary of the Department of Consumer Affairs under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution, Khare will take on this as an additional charge.
“Today, Nidhi Khare, IAS took charge as the new Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), and was warmly welcomed by the officers and staff,” shared the Ministry in a post in X.
Khare succeeds Prashant Kumar Singh, who was appointed as the Secretary of MNRE in October 2024. Singh was repatriated to Manipur to serve as Chief Secretary at the request of the state government. The state has been witnessing ethnic violence.
It further added that in her first official interaction, Sudeep Jain, Additional Secretary, MNRE and Lalit Bohra, Joint Secretary, MNRE presented a comprehensive overview of the ministry’s ongoing projects and the progress of various schemes under MNRE.
During the session, Khare outlined her key priorities which includes accelerating R&D to drive innovation in the renewable energy sector, ensuring the successful implementation of financial and physical targets for all MNRE schemes and programmes, focusing on quality and standards to build a robust and sustainable renewable energy infrastructure, and encouraging the team to think outside the box, develop indigenous capabilities, and simplify processes to make technological advancements accessible to the common man.
“With a clear vision and a collaborative approach, Secretary Khare is poised to steer MNRE towards new milestones, empowering India’s renewable energy future,” it said.
