UltraTech Cement Aims for 85 percent Green Energy in Total Mix by 2030

The ambitious target aligns with UltraTech's broader commitment to achieving 100 percent renewable energy for its entire electricity requirement by 2050.

UltraTech Cement is aiming to significantly enhance its commitment to sustainable practices by increasing the share of green energy in its overall energy mix to 85 percent by 2030. The company, as an interim goal, plans to triple its current green energy share from 22 percent to 60 percent by the fiscal year 2026.

The ambitious target aligns with UltraTech's broader commitment to achieving 100 percent renewable energy for its entire electricity requirement by 2050, as part of its RE100 commitment.

To achieve these goals, UltraTech has implemented various initiatives, including the adoption of renewable energy sources and the expansion of Waste Heat Recovery Systems (WHRS). Currently boasting 691 MW of green energy capacity, comprising 262 MW of WHRS and 429 MW of contracted renewable energy, UltraTech covers approximately 22 percent of its current energy needs through green sources.

In a move to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, UltraTech has declared its intention to refrain from further investments in thermal power capacity. The company has also embraced innovative technologies like the RotoDynamic Heater (RDH) technology from Coolbrook, which utilizes electrification from renewable sources in cement production, eliminating the need for fossil fuels.

Furthermore, UltraTech is actively exploring technologies such as Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) in collaboration with startup companies like CarbonOrO, Coomtech, and Fortera.

As part of the Government's eFAST initiative, UltraTech has committed to deploying 500 electric trucks and adding 1000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) vehicles in the 40-tonne category in its operations by June 2025.
