Yamna, a UK based specialised green hydrogen and derivatives platform, has affirmed its support for Oman’s green hydrogen initiatives, marking a significant contribution to the Sultanate's energy transition goals. The company recently participated in the National Green Hydrogen Ecosystem Readiness Lab in Muscat.
During the inauguration, Yamna CEO Abdelaziz Yatribi emphasised the company's commitment to supporting Oman’s objective of becoming a leading player in the global green hydrogen market by 2030. "We are proud to participate in the National System Readiness Lab for the Green Hydrogen Sector, organised by Hydrom in cooperation with the Oman Vision 2040 Unit and the Ministry of Energy and Minerals," Yatribi stated.
The initiative reflects Oman’s broader strategy to develop a robust green hydrogen production infrastructure and achieve significant advancements in the sector. Yamna, a key member of a consortium that won a bid for a green ammonia project in Dhofar Governorate, will play a pivotal role in this endeavor. The consortium, which also includes Electricite de France (EDF), JPOWER of Japan, and Yamnaco Ltd (Yamna), plans to build a large-scale green ammonia facility with a capacity of 1 million tonnes per year.
The project will involve installing approximately 4.5 GW of wind and solar energy capacity, supported by battery storage and 2.5 GW of electrolyser capacity. The green hydrogen produced will be used at an ammonia plant planned for the Salalah Free Zone. "The green ammonia project is a pivotal step in advancing the global hydrogen economy and accelerating its transition towards a low-carbon future," Yamna noted in a recent statement.
The National Green Hydrogen Ecosystem Readiness Lab, which features participation from around 50 government, public sector, and private organisations, concludes later this week. This lab underscores Oman’s commitment to fostering a sustainable green hydrogen ecosystem in line with international standards.
