Turkey has significantly advanced its renewable energy drive, with wind and solar power now accounting for 30 percent of the nation’s total installed electricity capacity as of the end of March 2025, according to data released by Turkey’s Electricity Transmission Corporation (TEIAŞ).

Turkey’s total installed electricity capacity stood at 117,876 MW by the end of March 2025, reflecting steady growth in the renewable energy sector. This shift is driven by increasing domestic electricity demand, efforts to reduce dependency on fossil fuel imports, and the push to strengthen the country’s industrial base.

A key driver of this progress has been rapid growth in solar energy installations. Solar capacity surged from 16,700 MW in March 2024 to 21,620 MW by March 2025, representing a 129 percent year-on-year increase. Similarly, wind energy capacity grew from 12,082 MW to 13,098 MW, a 108 percent rise over the same period.

One year ago, wind and solar accounted for 25.7 percent of Turkey’s installed capacity. Their combined share has now reached the 30 percent mark, underscoring the country’s accelerated transition toward renewable energy.

The rise in renewables is  aligned with Turkey’s long-term energy security and economic goals, including lowering its current account deficit and reducing carbon emissions. With robust policy support and growing investments in green infrastructure, Turkey continues to position itself as a regional leader in clean energy deployment.
