TrinaTracker, the wholly owned Single Axis Tracker manufacturer subsidiary of Trina Solar has signed an 875MW solar tracker supply contract with Samsung C&T (SSCT), for Qatar’s largest solar plant — the industrial cities solar power project (IC Solar).
The contract is for the supply of two solar photovoltaic plants,417MW in Mesaieed Industrial City, and 458MW Ras Laffan Industrial City. Both projects are expected to reach Commercial Operation at the end of 2024.
Once completed, the plants will supply power to energy intensive facilities in the industrial complex owned by QatarEnergy and Qatar’s national electrical grid.
Sookyung Ha highly praised the professional performance from TrinaTracker since the beginning of the two companies’ cooperation more than one year ago, saying, “It fully reflects our trust and recognition in TrinaTracker, since we choose to cooperate with Trina to execute this large-scale PV project in Qatar. On the occasion of 25th anniversary of Trina Solar, we hope to take this signing ceremony as an opportunity, to continuously deepen our cooperation, and exchange experiences between both sides. At the same time, we hope Trina can participate in more quality projects of Samsung C&T and contribute to the high-quality development of the global energy industry."
The Qatar IC Solar project was developed by the Qatar state-owned petroleum company QatarEnergy, and Samsung C&T will be responsible for Engineering, procurement and Construction (EPC).
The project plans to use 13,849 Trina Vanguard 2P solar trackers which have been specifically engineered to ensure long term reliability and optimize energy performance of large format bifacial solar modules.
This remarkable project represents a major milestone in the implementation of Qatar’s diversification of its energy resources, and to increase the uptake on high-technology innovative and sustainable renewable energy solutions.
Once the project commences commercial operations, Qatar will increase its renewable energy capacity to 1.68GW, and TrinaTracker is sincerely proud to be the first Chinese company to deliver solar trackers to Qatar.
Walt Ma regaled the highly collaborative process between SSCT and TrinaTracker on the Qatar project and the deep and close support provided by TrinaTracker at every step of the project life-cycle from pre-sale product design, project delivery and seamless fulfilment to extensive on site construction and installation guidance. He said, "For the Qatar IC Solar project, we will go all out to guarantee the successful delivery, and ensure on time grid connection. I also believe the Qatar project is only the starting point of our cooperation with SSCT. In the future, I look forward to Samsung C&T and Trina working together to tackle new scenarios and challenges and accomplish more significant achievements and the history cooperation between Trina & Samsung C&T together.”
