The United States, India, and Tanzania have launched a collaborative effort known as the Triangular Development Partnership (TriDEP) aimed at bolstering renewable energy development in Tanzania. Spearheaded by The Asia Foundation, this initiative focuses on strengthening the country's grid infrastructure and cultivating a conducive policy environment for renewable energy growth. TriDEP marks a significant step in India's development cooperation strategy, aligned with shared Indo-Pacific objectives alongside the US.

The partnership's inaugural phase has commenced with proactive involvement from India's National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and Grid India. Over the next six months, a series of workshops, webinars, and on-site visits will be organized, culminating in specialized capacity-building sessions held in India. These sessions aim to disseminate best practices and expertise in modern grid management, as well as solar and renewable energy technologies.

The launch event, attended by more than 60 representatives from government bodies, utilities, regulators, private enterprises, and academic institutions, highlighted the commitment to collaborative action. Key officials such as acting USAID Mission Director Alexander Klaits, Charge de Affair Manoj Verma of the Indian High Commission to Tanzania, and Tanzania's Permanent Secretary Felchesmi Mramba from the Ministry of Energy underscored the strategic importance of TriDEP.

Beyond advancing clean energy goals, TriDEP integrates disaster risk reduction and climate-smart agriculture initiatives, reinforcing its holistic approach to sustainable development. By fostering a robust partnership framework, TriDEP aims to create lasting impacts in Tanzania's energy sector, leveraging expertise and resources from all participating nations to accelerate progress towards a greener future.
