TotalEnergies Waves Green Signal for Huge 1000 MW Solar Power Project in Iraq
The Iraqi Electricity Ministry expressed optimism for the venture, underlining its potential to produce a committing tie-up between Iraq and TotalEnergies.

TotalEnergies is set to embark on an aspirational solar power project in Iraq after obtaining an official endorsement from Baghdad.
The Iraqi Electricity Ministry officially approved that it had sanctioned the project pursuing discussions between Electricity Minister Ziad Fadil and TotalEnergies members in the Iraqi capital.
The project, which will be situated in the Artawi oilfield in Basra, aims to develop a huge 1,000 MW solar power park.
The Iraqi Electricity Ministry expressed optimism for the venture, underlining its potential to produce a committing tie-up between Iraq and TotalEnergies.
The agreement contains three contracts between the Iraqi Ministry of Oil and TotalEnergies, with the fourth contract particularly reserved for the significant solar energy project in Basra.
Earlier, in April 2023, TotalEnergies declared its aim to collaborate with ACWA Power, under the patronage of Iraqi authorities, to construct a 1 GW solar power plant to deliver electricity to the Basrah regional grid.
Iraq is stepping towards minimise its reliance on energy imports by building various solar power stations.
There are similar agreements have been inked with major firms like Abu Dhabi-based Masdar and Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power, waving Iraq’s commitment to tapping renewable energy sources.
