TotalEnergies, in collaboration with Saudi Arabia's Aljomaih Energy and Water Company (AEW), has signed a significant 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) for the Rabigh 2 solar power project.

This 300 MW solar facility is an integral part of Saudi Arabia's National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), which is designed to diversify the country's energy mix and reduce its dependency on gas. The project is aligned with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals, which aim to increase the share of renewable energy in the national grid and reduce the carbon footprint of the energy sector.

As part of the agreement, the consortium comprising TotalEnergies and AEW will jointly develop, own, and operate the Rabigh 2 solar plant. The facility will be connected to the national grid by 2026, contributing to Saudi Arabia’s target of producing 50 percent of its energy from renewables by 2030. The project represents TotalEnergies' ongoing commitment to supporting Saudi Arabia's energy transition, aligning with the nation’s Green Initiative aimed at expanding renewable energy and reducing emissions.

Patrick Pouyanne, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies, expressed the company’s pride in contributing to Saudi Arabia's Green Initiative and noted that the Rabigh 2 solar project will play a key role in reducing carbon emissions while bolstering the country’s renewable energy capacity.

Ibrahim Al Jomaih, Chairman of AEW, also emphasised the importance of the Rabigh 2 project, highlighting that AEW is proud to lead its development. He described the collaboration with TotalEnergies as an essential step in advancing Saudi Arabia's energy transition and underscored the strategic role of solar energy in the nation’s sustainable future.

In addition to the Rabigh 2 project, TotalEnergies is also progressing with the development of the 119 MW Wadi Al Dawasir solar power plant, which is expected to start operations in early 2025. These initiatives underscore TotalEnergies' robust strategy to expand its renewable energy footprint in Saudi Arabia, playing a significant role in the country's efforts to diversify its energy sources and meet its ambitious sustainability goals.
