In a significant development for Telangana’s energy sector, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka announced that construction on the Yadadri Thermal Power Plant (YTPS) is set to be completed by May 2025.

The plant is expected to supply 4,000 MW of electricity to the State grid. The announcement was made during Bhatti’s recent visit to the YTPS site. He was joined by ministers N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy.

During the site visit, Bhatti flagged off a train loaded with coal from Ramagundam, which is to fuel YTPS operations, at the Damaracharla point. He also inaugurated the power connection for Stage I of the thermal plant, linking it to the state grid. The Deputy CM and accompanying officials reviewed the plant's construction progress and received updates from senior project managers on the status of remaining work.

In a press briefing, Deputy CM Bhatti highlighted the successful completion of power integration for Stage I and shared that Stage II has also been connected to the grid. He announced that the remaining three stages of the YTPS project are on track for completion by March 2025, ensuring the full capacity of 4,000 MW will be available to consumers by May.

Emphasising Telangana’s long-term energy goals, Bhatti stated that the state government is drafting a new energy policy, which will be presented to the legislative assembly after consulting with intellectuals and energy experts. This policy aims to boost renewable energy production while addressing the growing energy needs of the state.

Aiming for a sustainable energy future, the State government is planning to generate 20,000 MW of green energy as part of a broader environmental conservation strategy. The Deputy CM added that multinational companies establishing industries in Telangana would be required to incorporate green power into their production processes, with the government stepping up efforts to meet this demand through new green energy projects.

Bhatti forecasted that power demand in Telangana is set to reach approximately 22,288 MW by 2028-29, potentially rising to 31,809 MW by 2034-35. The State government is proactively formulating plans to meet these projections, ensuring consistent power supply for sectors including industry, agriculture, and domestic consumption.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to making Telangana a role model in the Indian power sector by prioritising high-quality, reliable electricity access across all sectors and preparing for future energy needs.
