Teerth Gopicon and Reliance Industries have won SJVN’s tender to develop 5,830 kW of grid-connected solar power project as part of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
Teerth Gopicon secured the majority share with 5,705 kW, while Reliance Industries was awarded 125 kW. The tender, issued in December 2024, requires the installation of rooftop solar projects across union government buildings in seven States viz. Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan. These projects will operate under the Renewable Energy Service Company (RESCO) model, which allows developers to build, own, and operate the solar plants, selling electricity to the government.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has appointed SJVN Ltd. as the implementing agency, responsible for the installation of grid-connected rooftop solar systems on government properties. The initiative primarily targets the solarisation of buildings linked to the ministries of Commerce and Industry, Chemicals and Fertilisers, and departments like Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
It may be noted that India plans to solarise all government buildings by December 2025 under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana. This initiative aims to boost renewable energy adoption, lower electricity expenses, and support the country’s sustainable development objectives.
It further reflects India's continued efforts to scale up renewable energy deployment, enhance energy security, and achieve its ambitious targets for solar capacity and battery storage in the coming years.
