Tata Power Renewables Commissions 2x50 MW Solar Projects in UP
Utility giant Tata Power’s renewables arm Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) has commissioned two solar power projects of 50 MW each at Prayagraj, and Banda in the state of Uttar Pradesh (UP).

Utility giant Tata Power’s renewables arm Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) has commissioned two solar power projects of 50 MW each at Prayagraj, and Banda in the state of Uttar Pradesh (UP).
Further, these projects have been completed by the company within the agreed timelines in spite of Covid challenges, and are expected to generate over 221.26 million units annually.
Commenting on commissioning of the project, Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD, Tata Power said, “the commissioning of Solar PV Projects in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj and Banda has strengthened our position as a leading renewable energy company, and we will continue to contribute to the country’s sustainable energy growth.”
During the construction of the solar project in Prayagraj, the company used approximately 1,59,600 modules, installed 16 Inverters, 103.25 KM of DC cable, and invested 4,87,080 man-hours. Now, the installation is expected to reduce 91,137 lakh tons of carbon emissions per year.
Similarly, at Banda, 1,67,440 modules were used by the company in over 236 acres of land, with 16 invertors using 3,35,000 man-hours.
The plants at Prayagraj and Banda are expected to reduce 1,77,037 lakh tons of carbon emission annually.
Despite various Covid-19 challenges faced by the industry, TPREL through Tata Power’s EPC arm Tata Power Solar Systems Ltd has successfully completed the project within the project timelines due to its excellent project execution experience and capabilities, the company said in a statement.
In line with this, TPREL has already signed Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) for these two projects with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd, (UPPCL), Lucknow.
With the addition of this 100 MW of capacity, the renewables capacity in operation for Tata Power will be 3,055 MW with 2,123 MW of solar and 932 MW of wind. Tata Power’s total renewable capacity is 4,909 MW with another 1,854 MW of renewable projects under various stages of implementation.
Further, these projects have been completed by the company within the agreed timelines in spite of Covid challenges, and are expected to generate over 221.26 million units annually.
