Tata Power Mulls to Set up 8GW Utility, 1GW Rooftop PV Projects, and 1.5 Lakh Solar Pumps in Next 5 Yrs in Rajasthan

In line with its business expansion strategy, utility major Tata Power has unveiled its plans to develop up to 8 GW capacity of utility-scale projects, 1 GW capacity of solar rooftops, and 1,50,000 solar pumps in the next five years in Rajasthan.

The company, along with its fully-owned subsidiary Tata Power Solar, will expand its clean energy generation presence in the state. Currently, it employs over 4,500 people in the state, and its expansion projects will generate employment for over 6,000-8,000 people in the next 5 years.
Mumbai-based Tata Power said that it is planning to have a renewable power portfolio of 10 GW in the state in the next 5 years.

While speaking at the Invest Rajasthan summit in Jaipur, Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD of Tata Power, said, “Both in terms of potential and what has been done so far, Rajasthan has today emerged as a role model to produce green energy through solar power. The company said in a statement that Rajasthan is an important state for its renewable business. It presently has a portfolio of 4,939 MWp. Till date, the company has commissioned 2,066 MW in Rajasthan and around 2,873 MW capacity of solar projects under construction in the state which would be completed in the next 12-24 months.

TP Ajmer Distribution Ltd, a unit of Tata Power, has completed 5 years of operations and has enhanced the consumer experience in Ajmer. Tata Power has ensured safe and reliable supply in Ajmer and also achieved AT&C loss reduction from 22 per cent to 9 per cent.

With the support and favourable policies of the Government of Rajasthan, we are looking forward to opportunities for power distribution in various other cities of the state under the collaborative Public Private Partnership (PPP) model and to serve the citizens of Rajasthan with quality power supply.

With respect to solar pumps, the company has so far installed nearly 21,600 solar pumps in Jaipur, Hanumangarh, Ganganagar, Jalore and Bikaner.

Tata Power is also working towards setting up EV charging infrastructure in the state and has installed over 1100 home chargers and 100 public chargers. It is also planning to install 10,000 public EV charging points in the state in the next few years.
