Tamil Nadu Plans to Invest in EV Worth USD 6 Billion for Next Five Years

The Tamil Nadu government intends to invest USD 6 billion for the subsequent 5 years in the EV sector.
The government was also focussing on generating 1.50 lakh new job opportunities.
At the event, the top government officials, entrepreneurs, executives of major companies comprising those involved in the EV industry and EV component manufacturers participated.
CS Gopalakrishnan Chief Manufacturing Officer added, "Hyundai is one of the largest (automobile) manufacturers and will be a committed partner to realise Tamil Nadu's vision to become a preferred EV hub in the country".
The roundtable discussion aimed at the crucial role Tamil Nadu targets to play in the global electric vehicle manufacturing landscape.
The major points of discussion consisted of strategies to augment opportunities for MSMEs and entrepreneurs within the EV sector, and net zero manufacturing in the EV sector among other points.
Dinesh Arjun, Co-Founder and CEO of EV firm Raptee said, “This initiative is a major step to establish and strengthen Tamil Nadu’s leadership position in the EV space as well. The commitment from the government and industry leaders gives immense confidence that we (Raptee) are poised to benefit a lot from investing in the state.”
Speaking on the occasion, Industries, Investment Promotion, and Commerce Minister TRB Rajaa highlighted the revised ‘Tamil Nadu Electric Vehicles Policy 2023’, which incentivises and attracts investors to strengthen the state’s flourishing EV ecosystem. Six cities - Chennai, Coimbatore, Trichy, Madurai, Salem and Tirunelveli have been earmarked for development as EV hubs to hasten TN’s rise as a global EV manufacturing hub.
