Pune-based Suzlon Energy Ltd. and New Delhi-based JSP Green Wind 1 Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of Jindal Renewables, have signed an agreement for a 302.4 MW wind power project in Karnataka's Koppal region.
This expansion builds on the 400 MW wind power project announced last month, bringing the total capacity of projects commissioned for Jindal Renewables to 702.4 MW. This marks Suzlon's largest-ever commercial and industrial (C&I) order from a single customer, underscoring the strategic alignment between the two organizations to advance India's renewable energy and green steel goals.
The new project will utilize 96 state-of-the-art S144 wind turbine generators (WTGs) equipped with Hybrid Lattice Towers, each with a rated capacity of 3.15 MW. The power generated will be directed toward the captive consumption of Jindal’s steel plants in Chhattisgarh and Odisha, supporting decarbonisation in the steel industry. With this collaboration, Suzlon’s C&I orders now account for 56 percent of its total order book, which stands at a record 5.4 GW as of now, representing a significant milestone for the company.
Speaking on the development, Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman of Suzlon Group, emphasised the significance of this partnership, stating that the repeat order from Jindal Renewables reflects the trust and commitment both organisations share in driving sustainable industrial growth. He highlighted how the collaboration not only advances India’s renewable energy targets but also reinforces Suzlon’s leadership in delivering innovative and reliable renewable energy solutions.
Bharat Saxena, President of Jindal Renewables, echoed similar sentiments, noting that the project aligns with the company’s broader vision to lead the adoption of green energy solutions in the steel industry. Saxena reiterated Jindal’s dedication to sustainability, stating that this initiative is the foundation for further renewable energy ventures aimed at transforming industrial operations in India.
JP Chalasani, CEO of Suzlon Group, stressed the importance of renewable energy in transforming hard-to-abate sectors like steel into models of sustainable growth. He described this project as a benchmark for integrating renewable energy into industrial applications, encouraging other organisations to explore similar pathways to achieve economic and environmental sustainability.
Jindal Renewables has ambitious plans to develop around 12 GW of renewable energy assets, including storage and green hydrogen production facilities, by 2030. The company’s current portfolio includes approximately 3 GW of renewable energy projects with fully secured power off-take agreements.
As per the firm, Suzlon Group has installed approximately 20.9 GW of wind energy capacity across 17 countries.
This partnership between Suzlon and Jindal Renewables represents a critical step in India’s transition to sustainable energy, particularly in industries like steel that are traditionally reliant on fossil fuels. With this project, both companies are setting a precedent for innovation and collaboration to address the challenges of climate change and energy transition.
