Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL) has awarded contracts for 100 MW of wind power projects to Suzlon Energy and Integrum Energy Infrastructure, marking a major milestone in its renewable energy expansion plan.
Each company will develop 50 MW wind farms. Suzlon’s project will come up in Madhya Pradesh, while Integrum’s will be set up in Maharashtra. These projects are part of BPCL’s strategic move to shift its refineries in Mumbai and Bina toward cleaner energy sources.
The projects, awarded through a tender floated in December 2023, will be developed on a lump-sum turnkey basis. Both companies will also be responsible for operating and maintaining the wind farms for up to 10 years. The wind turbines to be installed will have a minimum individual capacity of 2 MW, in line with the latest standards under the Revised List of Models and Manufacturers.
This move is a part of BPCL’s broader target to build a 10 GW renewable energy portfolio by 2040. So far, the company has installed 31.6 MW of solar, 11.8 MW of wind capacity, and implemented 18 MW of energy-efficient lighting across its facilities.
In addition to these wind projects, BPCL recently won 150 MW in NTPC’s auction for ISTS-connected solar projects and has formed partnerships to develop green hydrogen and compressed biogas projects. These initiatives are aimed at helping the company reach net-zero emissions (Scope 1 and 2) by 2040.
