SunSource Energy, a leading provider of solar energy solutions and a subsidiary of SHV Energy, a 127-year-old Dutch Multinational, has been honoured with the prestigious 'Solar Power Project of the Year - India' award at the Asian Power Awards 2024 that recognises Innovative and Trailblazing Initiatives in the Power Sector.
This recognition underscores SunSource Energy's commitment to delivering innovative and sustainable solar power solutions that address the critical energy challenges facing India.
SunSource Energy has received this award for its clean energy transition project in Lakshadweep, constructed for Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). The project, one of the first on-grid solar projects with a cutting-edge Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), spans the islands of Kavaratti and Agatti and boasts a combined solar capacity of 1.7 MW and a 1.4 MWh battery storage system.
Santanu Guha, CEO, SunSource Energy said, “We are delighted to be recognised yet again for our contributions to India’s energy transition efforts. The Lakshadweep (Solar with Battery Storage) project is an innovative environmental stewardship initiative of national importance and represents a key step towards sustainable energy for the region.”
Over its projected technical lifetime, the project is expected to generate commercial savings of approximately INR 250 crore. The reduction of diesel consumption by up to 190 lakh litres and offsetting 58,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions underscores its significance in promoting green energy.
The awards, held in Singapore, honoured companies that have taken innovative and game-changing steps to address the effects of the climate crisis and meet the growing demand for energy.
