Spain is stating itself as Europe’s future prominence in green hydrogen generation to clean up heavy industries.

Spain’s not thickly or densely populated territory usually receives huge wind swept and above 2,500 hours of sunshine on average annually, as per the state weather agency, giving suitable conditions for wind and solar energy, and further green hydrogen production.

Ecological Transition Minister Teresa Ribera hosted a foremost seminar regarding the global renewable energy players which focused on steps “to guarantee our energy security” as the European Union strengthens on intra-bloc supply chains for its energy requirements.

Green hydrogen is created when renewable energy sources to power an electrical current that through water, separating its hydrogen and oxygen molecules through electrolysis.

The process doesn’t generate earth-heating carbon dioxide, but least than 0.1% of global hydrogen production is currently created in this way.

Hydrogen consumption in Spain is currently around 500,000 metric tons per year, mainly produced from natural gas and used in refineries and chemical production.

Spain, France, Germany and Portugal come in consensus to construct a hydrogen pipeline by 2030 to carry in transport about 2 million metric tons of hydrogen to France per year, 10% of the EU's assessed hydrogen requirements.

The International Energy Agency mentions that the world will need 50 gigawatts of renewable potential to green hydrogen production by 2027 — a 100-times rise.
