First National Bank (FNB) of South Africa is taking a proactive step towards environmental sustainability and operational reinforcement by installing solar power systems at 100 branches throughout South Africa.

This initiative targets to ascertain uninterrupted services during load shedding and minimise the bank’s impact on the environment.

FNB CEO Jacques Celliers stresses the bank’s pledge to renewable energy sources and positive environmental impact. He underlines that while most branches are already powered with backup power solutions, transitioning to renewable energy aligns with their long-term objective for greener operations.

The project will commence in selected branches, comprising those in Mthatha, Bethlehem, Phuthaditjhaba, and Zeerust, and will be implemented in stages to ascertain a smooth transition for each location. The step reflects FNB’s dedication, not only to customer service but also to environmental stewardship.

Lee-Anne van Zyl, CEO of FNB Points of Presence, stresses the significance of branches in providing economic activities in local markets. Despite customers enhancing its digital channels, the bank intends to remain accessible to communities, making this solar installation initiative vital for the bank’s constant community support and involvement.
