The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy in South Africa has officially announced the commencement of the Seventh Bid Submission Phase, known as Bid Window 7, under the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers Procurement Programme (REIPPPP).

This latest phase aims to procure 5000 MW from Solar Photovoltaic and onshore wind projects. The breakdown includes a target of 1800 MW from Solar PV and 3200 MW from onshore wind.

This initiative aligns with South Africa's commitment to expanding its renewable energy capacity and reducing reliance on traditional sources.

Prospective bidders are required to fulfill specific criteria. Among the prerequisites, a non-refundable documentation fee of R 25,000 must be paid. Additionally, interested parties need to complete an electronic registration form and strictly adhere to the submission deadlines set by the Department.

The Request for Proposals (RFP) for Bid Window 7 is scheduled to be available for download from December 14, 2023.

These initiatives underscore South Africa's commitment to diversifying its energy mix and fostering the growth of renewable energy projects.
