Sona Comstar Signs Licensing Treaty with Equipmake to Manufacture EV Components

The companies anticipate the systems’ serial production to start in 2025.

Sona BLW Precision Forgings has signed a technology licensing agreement with Equipmake for the manufacturing of electric vehicle components.

Under the agreement, Equipmake will license definite patented spoke motor and inverter technology in the power range of 100kW to 440kW to Sona Comstar to produce and sell EV powertrains, sub-systems, and components for electric cars, buses, commercial vehicles and off-road vehicles.

The companies anticipate the systems’ serial production to start in 2025.

Equipmake's advanced technology and Sona Comstar's manufacturing and sales capabilities and collaboration intend to avail the high-performance, efficient, cost-effective electrified drivetrain products and services.

Equipmake CEO Ian Foley stated that spoke motors and inverters have been known and recognised for their power and density, and the company is affirming that they will play a significant role in driving the growth of the electric vehicle market in India.

SonaComstar is an Indian based, global automotive systems & components producer with 9 plants all over India, China, Mexico, and the USA.

The company deals in designing, manufacturing and delivering critical automobile systems and components including all vehicle categories like conventional passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, off-highway vehicles, electric cars, electric light commercial vehicles, and electric two & three-wheelers.

Equipmake is the UK producer of electrification products for battery-electric vehicle drivetrains. The company was established in 1997.
