Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam’s (RVUNL) auction for the development of 500 MW/1,000 MWh standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS) has discovered an L1 tariff of INR 2.21 lakh/MW/month.
Solarworld Energy Solutions has won 125 MW/250 MWh at a tariff of INR 2.21 lakh/MW/month.
Oriana Power has secured 50 MW/100 MWh at a tariff of INR of INR 2.22 lakh/MW/month.
Rays Power Experts has been awarded 75 MW/150 MWh at a tariff of INR of INR 2.23 lakh/MW/month.
JSW Neo Energy has won 250 MW/500 MWh at a tariff of INR 2.24 lakh/MW/month.
The tender also has a greenshoe option that will be discussed with the winners.
With this, the total awarded capacity for standalone BESS stands at 4.6 GWh with 0.5 GWh capacity under construction and 3.7 GWh under the open tendering process.
The tender for this was issued in November 2025.
The BESS project is eligible for viability gap funding (VGF), capped at INR 27 lakh/MWh or 30 percent of the project's capital cost, whichever is lower.
The total capacity will be distributed across RRUVNL's facilities, including the Giral Lignite Power Project in Barmer, Suratgarh Thermal Power Station in Suratgarh, and substations in Sakatputa, Kota, and Heerapura, Jaipur.
Developers must ensure system availability for two charge-discharge cycles per day. The BESS must allow RVUNL to control charging and discharging on demand. A minimum of 95 percent monthly system availability must be ensured by the developer.
Projects must be commissioned within 18 months of the battery energy storage purchase agreement's effective date. RRUVNL will be handling land identification and allocation for the projects.
