Solar PV and energy storage solutions provider SOFAR has announced a major milestone in its Indian operations, surpassing 5 GW in cumulative Solar PV Inverter shipments. In the first half of 2024 alone, SOFAR shipped over 1.3 GW, significantly accelerating its impact on the Indian solar market.
“Our inverter technology has evolved significantly and now plays a critical role in India's energy transition,” said Sunil Tiku, India Country Manager at SOFAR. “We are proud to have surpassed 5 GW in shipments, and we are committed to continuing our investment in innovation and local service support to meet the needs of our Indian customers.”
He further asserted that SOFAR’s success in India is closely linked to its innovative product strategy and localization efforts. “By launching a comprehensive portfolio of advanced string inverters, SOFAR has been able to meet the growing energy demands of Indian customers while addressing the region's unique challenges. The company's mature inverter technology has gained widespread adoption, positioning it as a trusted partner for both utility-scale and commercial and industrial (C&I) projects,” he said.
The company has a fully operational service centre and registered office in Ahmedabad. Further, SOFAR has established regional branches, storage centres, and service hubs across India to provide faster and more efficient service to its customers.
This localised approach, according to SOFAR, is crucial in India’s renewable energy market, where service responsiveness and technical support are vital to the success of large-scale projects. “In the future, we’ll continue focusing on technological innovation and service optimisation to expand our business footprint and deliver robust localised support,” added Tiku.
The trend toward larger block sizes and the shift from 1000V to 1500V systems, particularly for utility-scale projects, has reshaped the landscape. “SOFAR’s R&D team is already working on solutions that go beyond 1500V, ensuring the company remains at the forefront of technological advancements in India’s solar sector,” stated Tiku.
The company showcased its 350 kW Three-Phase Utility PV Solution during the REI Expo 2024. “The SOFAR 350KTLX0 inverter, part of the PowerMega series, received strong market feedback for its high efficiency, reliability, and ease of installation. This inverter, alongside the PSC 100 communication cabinet, is particularly suited for large-scale utility and C&I projects where operational efficiency and long-term reliability are essential,” shared Tiku.
He further added that SOFAR’s PowerMega series, particularly the SOFAR 350KTLX0 inverter, has become the go-to choice for EPCs, IPPs, and C&I developers. “Its high-efficiency design, combined with reliability and ease of installation, has made the inverter a preferred solution for developers seeking long-term operational excellence,” he said.
Tiku further stated that as the Indian market moves towards larger-scale projects and the integration of energy storage, SOFAR is well-positioned to continue its upward trajectory.
