In a significant development, state-run power producer SJVN announced today that the first unit of the 30 MW capacity at the Naitwar Mori Hydro Electric Project (NMHEP) has commenced supplying power to the national electricity grid.

SJVN Chairman & Managing Director, Nand Lal Sharma, expressed his satisfaction, stating, "SJVN has successfully synchronised the first unit of the 60 MW (30 MWx2) Naitwar Mori Hydro Electric Project with the National Grid."

The Naitwar Mori Hydro Electric Project, situated on the River Tons, a major tributary of the Yamuna in Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand, is a significant addition to the region's power infrastructure.

Sharma highlighted that the foundation stone for the 60 MW project was laid by Union Power Minister R K Singh and former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Trivender Singh Rawat back in 2018.

The NMHEP is designed as a run-of-the-river project, featuring two generating units of 30 MW each. The second unit is scheduled for synchronization later this month. Once fully operational, the project is expected to generate a substantial 265.5 million units of electricity annually.

To ensure the efficient evacuation of power from Naitwar Mori HEP, SJVN has constructed a 37 km 220 KV transmission line, extending from Bainol to Snail.

In terms of regional benefits, Sharma mentioned, "After the commissioning of the project, 12 percent of free electricity will be supplied to Uttarakhand as royalty." Additionally, each family affected by the project will receive an amount equivalent to the cost of 100 units of electricity per month for the next 10 years.
